SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Santa's helpers are being recruited in Wyoming to boost donations to the Toys for Tots program. Thousands of gifts are being collected at dozens of sites, with distribution set for the weekend before Christmas.
The Wyoming Trial Lawyers Association has added its member offices to the drop-off locations list. Sheridan attorney Kevin Kessner said that if you have a little one in your life, bring him or her along when choosing a donation.
"They're going to have a lot better idea of what other kids like," he said, "and it gives them the opportunity to really think about the issue and what they're doing for the holiday season, and giving back to people."
Toys being donated should be new and unwrapped. Kessner advised considering a range of ages when selecting toys.
"We want to make sure that those children get something that they otherwise wouldn't get at the holiday season," he said. "And regardless of whether it has anything to do with the law and what our organization stands for, it's a good thing to get behind."
Toys for Tots reports that donations for pre-teens and teens tend to be light. The organization recommends sporting equipment, books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, board games, radio-control cars or trucks, handheld electronics, skateboards and helmets.
Toys for Tots coordinates donations in several counties, and on the Crow and Northern Cheyenne reservations. Go to ToysForTots.org for details on local toy distributions. For those who need toys, applications are required. Call 307-635-0820 to find a law office drop-off location.
